Traveling Route 40, West to Albuquerque

We were on the road late last May, trying to make it to Albuquerque, NM before the sun set.  I think I took a photo while my husband was driving at least 75 mph (probably 85 actually.....).  I loved the sky and those clouds.  It's quite amazing how little cars are on Route 40 when you cross the Mississippi - I love the wide open spaces.  A fun painting for me.

Over the Hill to Home

Autumn is the time of year when we like to travel around the park and leaf peak, just like other tourists.  We were traveling from Speculator when we climbed this hill on the way home.  The Adirondack Park is so special, because you can be in civilization, on a road to home, but be within a three minute walk into the forest and be lost forever!  I hope this pastel shows that kind of wildness at the edge of the road.

The weather has been very cool and so I've been relegated to painting on my patio, and running in to warm my hands every now and then! Needless to say, I've been painting from my photos and this is one done from a photo taken this January in Indian Lake, New York. This road is Route 28, going into Indian Lake, past the barn that I painted plein air last summer. It's a tranquil and beautiful spot, for a main road!
